West face of bell tower

Note the wide crack where the bricks meet the sill cap.  These cracks allow rainwater to run straight down into the interior of the wall.  In cold weather repeated freezing and thawing actions cause the sill cap to disintegrate.  Note also the poor condition of the paint on the wooden louvers.
